I love this uplighter, it resembles a modernist vase or urn and it is hard to believe that it is 80 years' old!  This is the epitome of French Modernism and would look great in a minimalist scheme with sleek chrome furniture.

It gives off a great uplight too.  Unlike most table lamps, this give a good uplight and there is no glass shade.  It almost looks like a chrome piece of Keith Murray pottery.

Sleek and modern- try and find anything as good....
