You could be forgiven for thinking this is just another Breuer copy- after all there are so many copies about.  But it takes an original authorised example like this Knoll version to illustrate how well made their versions are.

This chair is one of a pair I have which were used to furnish an office in 1980- they have surivived in immaculate condition testament to the type of office which would use Knoll International to furnish it.  All the furniture was by Knoll International (who are officially the only authorised manufactuer of Breuer's famous Wassily chair, and who make it to the exact size and spec of the original).

What makes this chair extra special is that it bears a branded impressed signature of Marcel Breuer on the leather back rest.  This particular type of mark was only used for one year -1979, after which Knoll put the signature on the chrome runner.

The original design dates to the 1920's when it was designed for Breuer's artist friend Wasilly Kandinsky- hence the chairs nickname.  Original examples cost tens of thousands if you can find one, even 1960s and 1880s versions are highly prized and these chairs a represented in important museums and gallery collections worldwide.

Unlike the many copies, this original is very comfortable and exudes quality and detail.  A modern Knoll version costs in the region of £1300, so why not grab a piece of classic design now?
