Sonny Boy with Tennis Racket- a rare bronze by Josef Lorenzl

Sonny Boy together with Hoop Girl are perhaps best known as works by Ferdinand Preiss.  However, Josef Lorenzl made a version of his own.  His interpretation is beautifully modelled and every bit as good as the Preiss version.

Many artists and sculptors of the time copied eachother and often took inspiration from eachothers' works.  This is Josef Lorenzl's interpretation of Preiss's work and mighty fine it is too.

Unlike the Ferdinand Preiss version (which has the boy's hands empty), this version by Lorenzl includes a tennis racket in the boy's hands.  It is a very nice quality piece, which retains its original cold painted decoration.

The smallest detail is perfectly captured and the face is stunning- everything you would expect from Josef Lorenzl.  It was cast in Vienna C1928 and is a superb piece and signed R. Lor to the boy's sandal.

Condition: Excellent- some very minor wear to the patina comensurate with age.

Size: 16 cms tall
