The Roland Paris Gallery
We are delighted to have sourced a very limited quantity of Original Art Deco signed prints by one of the most important names in Art Deco, Modernism and Bauhaus - Roland Paris.
Roland Paris
was born in Vienna 1894 and was fortunate enough to have studied under
Henry van der Velde - who was a founder member of the Bauhaus school
and an accomplished illustrator and print maker.
Although
little is known about the enigmatic Roland Paris, his Art Deco bronze
statues command thousands of pounds at auction today. His work tended
not to copy other sculptors of the day and he developed his own style
specialising in sad looking Pierrots and rather comedic looking
Pierrettes. They
have rather intriguing facial features and were made from high quality,
luxurious materials, which were so typical of the Art Deco movement.
Like
many other Austrian sculptors, Josef Lorenzl and Stefan Dakon, Roland
Paris worked in many different materials including bronze,
Chryselephantine, spelter, yet the discovery of these woodcut prints
shows how Roland Paris’ style is still as strong in a two-dimensional
format.
These prints are testament to his skill and many are signed in pencil as well as being signed in the print. They are printed on a variety of papers and are in remarkably good condition given that they are over 80 years old. They are strikingly stylised images which looks as innovative and fresh today as they did in the Jazz Age.
If
you are looking for some genuine Art Deco artwork by one of the
period’s top artists, then these would make a stunning addition to your
Art Deco interior. Each print can be supplied in a neutral mount and black frame for an additional cost (contact us in advance for framing prices).
